The Mac version of Excel contains the same features as its Windows counterpart, including the standard filtering tools and preformatted formulas. Calculations and sorting may be performed with ease using tools such as AutoSum and Filter. You may also use the tools in Excel for Mac to create lists.

1.

Launch Excel and open the spreadsheet in which you want to create a list. Select the cell where you want to begin.

2.

Type the name of the first item in the list into the cell. For example, if you are making a list of days in the week, type “Sunday.” If your list is a common set of data, such as days, months or consecutive numbers, Excel for Mac can automatically complete your list. To automatically fill the remaining days of the week, select the “Sunday” cell and hover the cursor in the lower right corner. Click and drag the cursor down the column of cells while holding down the mouse button.

3.

Create your own custom lists for Excel to automatically fill. Click the “Excel” button and select the “Preferences” option, which will open a separate dialogue window. Click the “Custom Lists” option under the “Formulas and Lists” section.

4.

Fill in the remainder of your list manually. When you have finished typing the initial entry in the top cell, press the 'Enter' key to go to the next cell in the column. You may also use the down arrow to go to the next cell, or simply click on it, to continue typing items that need to be on your list.

The boolean logic in advanced filter is awesome, didn’t know that part, thanks!

What I’m missing here, is a huge red text saying “lookout for what the advanced filter gives you!” – meaning, if you want to filter out, for example, only “West” it will also filter “Western”, “Western Union” and everything which starts from “West” – which might be an issue.

How about how to DISable this functionality? Sorry to be a killjoy, but I’ve got 2016 where this functionality seems to be the default and it’s overwhelming. I just want the old-fashioned drop-down with the values contained in that column. This new functionality will just put your typical users OFF – it’s great for power-users but not normal people.
